Stress analysis is an umbrella term that refers to the engineering discipline and methods by which stresses in solids are calculated. There are several ways of performing stress analysis including classical mathematical techniques, numerical / mathematical modelling (computational simulation), experimental testing, or a combination of methods.
Most commonly, stress analysis refers to numerical simulation using the finite element method. This is also referred to as Finite Element Analysis.
